New Blackberry 9000 (Bold) is pretty killer.. up to par with iPhone?

13 05 2008

This article is completely non-Apple related but i feel like I have to write it for certain people who want a new phone but do not really want to head into the iPhone direction. Before the my beloved iPhone entered my life, I was an avid Blackberry user. I do have to say, without any regret, is that it was probably one of the most reliable mobile devices i had ever used. Many people think “Business” when it comes to the Blackberry name, but it is mainly because of the reliability.

I strongly believe in your mobile device being able to keep you connected in every aspect possible from the phone, text and MMS client to 3rd party apps (QIK, social network clients, etc) and of course reliable e-mail. This Phone definitely has

Introducing the new Blackberry Bold. If i did not have an iPhone this would be my next purchase. This AT&T first exclusive (followed by a T-Mobile release, then Verizon I’m sure) release phone will hit stores any day now. With the 3G revolution stirring about this 3G Blackberry will fit right in. This revamped phone has all of the normal (but advanced) BB features, plus a crap-ton more including:

• 802.11a/b/g plus GPS

• GPS is enhanced and assisted, and the handset has better map rendering

• 480 x 320 resolution screen with 65,000 colors—Crave says “never seen a better-looking display”

• 624MHz Intel PXA270 up from 312MHz

• Runs BlackBerry OS 4.6

• Keyboard has 8800-style

• 4.5″ tall x 2.6″ wide x 0.5″ deep, weighing 4.7oz

• Side-loading MicroSD/SDHC slot for up to 16GB additional

• 2MP camera with flash with Video support

• Talk time of 5 hours, with standby of 13 days

• MP3, WMA, AAC, DivX4 and WMV3 codec support

• 3.5mm headphone jack

• 128MB of flash plus 1GB of onboard memory (with encryption)

• Black leather back panel that can be swapped for other color leather plates

Many more features than the Apple iPhone but it comes down to preference. If you are not an Apple junkie, being content with not having that shiny Apple logo looking back at you in all of its glory, GET THIS PHONE. RIM: Please send me one immediately :)

Tommy (13:03:14) :

My decision now hinges on the price. I hope the $300-$400 rumors are true.
